A trip to Martin Mere Wetland Centre in the summer is always an unforgettable one.
Experience loads of family-friendly activities in the heart of West Lancashire. Activities include GIANT Bionic Bugs during the summer holidays and Animal Magic weekend in September, there really is something for everyone at the centre.
There’s a packed schedule of daily talks for you to learn more about the amazing animals. In addition, there’s and a wide range of species around the extraordinary wetland landscape for you to see. Fabulous flamingos, cheeky otters, greedy geese – what will your favourite be?
While you’re at Martin Mere Wetland Centre, make sure you grab a net and delve into pond dipping in the brand new Pond Zone! The centre has everything you need to uncover incredible underwater life. There are nets, trays, magnifying glasses, identity charts, and the friendly Learning Team* are on-hand to help.
For little detectives, discover a whole world of wonderful bugs in the world recording holding giant Bug Hotel. Squelch and bounce over wobbly bridges, reedy rambles and wetland tracks in Wild Walk – wellies are a must!
Canoe Safari and Boat Tour
For an additional experience during your visit, head over to the Canoe Safari and Boat Tour area. Pick up a paddle and canoe your way around the award-winning kilometre-long Canadian canoe trail. If you’re wanting a more relaxing experience, drift away on a 30 minute expertly-guided boat tour.
For little adventures, make sure you check out Rushes play area. From zip wire screams and scramble net laughs, to treehouse trailblazing and water zone wonders, the huge adventure playground is a total rush for ages 3 to 12.

Whilst you’re at the centre, enjoy hot and cold homemade lunches, freshly-brewed teas and coffees, and delicious cakes overlooking Swan Lake in Mere Side Café. In the shop, there’s loads of gorgeous gifts, books and toys for you – and every penny you spend in the shop and café goes to support vital conservation work.
